With the 2025 Super Bowl in our sights, many new commercials littered with stars have fallen from the When Harry met Reunion to pickleball Aces Willem Dafoe and Catherine O’hara, and more on the way.
Although there are many opinions about the best super bowl-commercials-oriented super bowl-commercials, there will be one that often comes up-Britney Spears, Beyoncé and Pink’s Gladiator-theme Pepsi-advertisement-actually never broadcast during the big game of the NFL. Going to make the advertisement, entitled “Gladiators” or “We Will Rock You” (it is both called), Spears and Beyoncé already had contracts with the brand. Pink was a First-Timer, who had never appeared in a TV commercial before.

The commercial, directed by Tarsem Singh, also contained Queen’s Brian May and Roger Taylor, who arranged a new version of the hit of their British band, and “Keizer” Enrique Iglesias, who eventually became lion food. The pop -super stars were flown to Rome to make the commercial, but it actually took place in a colony in the street of the actual Colosseum.

“What a weird deal that was,” Pink told People in 2023. “You are flying to Rome to shoot in a fake colony in the street from the real colony. Why are we here? We could have went to Canada. Understand. Not.
“If you are dealing with international superstars, finding a day that works for everyone can be one of the most difficult parts of the entire project,” Frank Scherma, a producer of the project, told Rolling Stone in the same year.

Singh remembered that he thought: “We get these girls for a very small window. Nothing can go wrong. “
Although a lot was prepared that day, the actual shoot took place in just a few minutes.

“I told them that I would wait for what I call ‘dog light’ – when the sun is only about 10 degrees or 20 degrees above,” Singh said. “That’s how I photograph all my family photos. I tell them, even a dog looks good in that light so that you can watch Real Good. So I waited for that light. And when the girls came, I just said: ‘We are going to risk it, wait until the end and no coverage. If we go, we just do it as two takes each, and we are ready. ” ‘
Just before that, Spears needed a bathroom break “and I had to say no,” Singh said. “We only have about 11 minutes of sunshine. But she understood and hung in it. ‘

The women rocked it in bikini tops and skirts, sang their hearts to the song after they had thrown down their weapons and came together in the ultimate female power movement.
Scherma said that the first five rows in the Coliseum contain real people, including May and Taylor, but the rest of the 50,000 Romans in the stands were CGI.
