NEW ORLEANS – The debate about Eli Manning and the Pro Football Hall of Fame will take at least another year.
Manning was the most discussed name among the finalists for the 2025 class, but he was not voted in the Hall of Fame in his first year on the mood. The class was announced on Thursday evening as part of the NFL Honors Show three days before the Super Bowl.
The 2025 Pro Football Hall of Fame class included Chargers tight end Antonio Gates, Vikings and Chiefs Pass Rusher Jared Allen, Packers wide receiver Sterling Sharpe and Eagles Cornerback Eric Allen.
In many years, Manning has been one of the most debate candidates for the Hall of Fame. He won two super bowls with the New York Giants, but never won an MVP, only made four Pro Bowls in 16 years and never led the NFL in another passing category other than interceptions.
Manning who is eligible in his first year in the group of 15 modern finalists who are eligible is perhaps a good sign for him in the future. He and all Giants fans who argued for his recording in the Hall of Fame will have to try again in 2026.
Manning did not seem to be bothered by the possibility that he could be passed on during this time.
‘It would be a great honor’
Manning is in New Orleans for Super Bowl Week and probably for the possibility that he can be chosen in the Hall of Fame.
He spoke about what it would mean if he got the call.
“It would be a great honor to be in that group, in the Hall of Fame, the people who played the game and played the game in the right way,” Manning Yahoo Sports said on Thursday, hours before the announcement of the Hall of 2025 Fame class. “What it would mean for me, my family, my teammates, the organization of the Giants … If you go in the Hall of Fame, it’s not only you, the boys around you are also part of it.”
That call did not come. But Manning had a complicated case for the Hall of Fame, unlike his brother Peyton, a selection without a doubt in 2021.
Eli Manning will have to wait a year. The Hall of Fame has let others wait, especially Terrell Owens, who was taken over twice before he was chosen. Manning said it would not disturb him if he got it at the first vote or further the road further on.
“I don’t know if it matters in which year you get in,” said Manning.
Eli Manning’s Legacy
Manning’s argument for the Hall of Fame starts and ends with two games.
Twice, at the end of the 2007 season and again at the end of the 2011 season, the Giants of Manning won the Super Bowl about Tom Brady and the New England Patriots. Both times Manning Super Bowl MVP.
In Super Bowl XLII, the Giants pulled out one of the biggest disruptions in NFL history and a Patriots team dismissed that was 18-0 in the game. Manning led a ride in the last two minutes to win the game, marked by the famous “Helmet Catch” by David Tyree.
Every quarterback that won two Super Bowls as a starter who is eligible for the Hall of Fame is already inaugurated other than Manning and Jim Plunkett. Without those two titles, Manning would probably not be close to the consideration of Hall of Fame.
While the Super Bowls wear most of the weight in the case for Manning, his supporters will point out that his 57,023 passing yards and 366 ongoing touchdowns always ranking of the ranking. On the all -time passing site, Manning lies for John Elway, Warren Moon and Fran Talkenton, all of whom are in the Hall of Fame.
The argument against Manning is that although he led those two super bowl victories, he was never considered the best Quarterback in the NFL or even in the conversation. His career -Passer rating is only 84.1. And although he had the two great playoff runs, he did not win a play -off game in one of his other 14 NFL seasons.
Missing this year can hurt Manning with other Quarterbacks such as Drew Brees and Philip Rivers are eligible for the Hall of Fame in 2026. For now his wait will continue.
